Australia, 1879 Sydney Shield Reverse Sovereign - Grades PCGS MS62.
One of the nicest shields I’ve come across this year. If you’re looking for an example of a shield sovereign for your type or date set, this piece is sure to impress. It is fully-struck up, with strong hairlines and a clear “kiss curl” on the obverse; on the reverse, the Arms of Ireland are bold, with a well-defined chest area on the pillar of the harp, which is often weakly struck. The fields are very reflective and the coin itself appears proof-like. The coin has such nice eye appeal that I was expecting a “+” designation on the grade. VERY SCARCE this nice.
