About us
Drake Sterling was established in 2007 with a single purpose: to bring the traditional world of coin collecting into the digital age.
As one of the first Australian coin dealers to operate with a dedicated website and email service, Drake Sterling paired precision photography with detailed, transparent descriptions to create a seamless online trading experience.
In 2008, the company became one of the first Australian dealers to join the prestigious Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) authorised dealer network. This partnership allowed Drake Sterling to almost exclusively offer coins graded by independent, world-class professionals, setting a new benchmark for trust and presentation.
Independently-graded coins and a streamlined website proved the perfect marriage of object and medium, and the company’s profile—and demand for PCGS-graded coins—grew rapidly. What began as a market disruption is now the standard: today, nearly every important Australian coin is certified by PCGS, every major dealer stocks PCGS-graded coins, and every serious auction house reserves a section for coins in PCGS holders. As one of the earliest advocates of independent coin certification, Drake Sterling remains the benchmark for consistency, credibility, and excellence in modern numismatics.
Drake Sterling's managing director, Eric Eigner, has been active in numismatics for more than 30 years. Although his interests span all areas of coin collecting, his passion lies in gold sovereigns and world gold coins. With a background in investment banking and over fifteen years as a full-time professional dealer, Eric is now regarded as part of Australia’s old guard. Whether you’re a seasoned connoisseur or a casual enthusiast, Eric offers personalised guidance to help you buy, sell, trade, grade, or consign your numismatic treasures.
