United Kingdom, 1871 St George Reverse Sovereign - Grades PCGS MS62.
S-3856, with large BP initials on the reverse. While the many varieties of the 1871 sovereign in proof have been thoroughly researched, few collectors seem to be aware that similar varieties also exist on the currency-issue version. The present coin, photographed above, is of the more difficult large “BP” variety, of which we have only handled two or three in Mint State. This specific coin is graded MS62 with PCGS and is bettered by just four coins.
