1839 Proof Half Sovereign

There aren’t too many early British gold proof coins that are still available for under $30,000 in unimpaired grade. With strong worldwide interest in proof gold, we can expect prices for desirable coins in high grade to continue to rise. The example photographed above is one of the few 1839 proof half sovereigns we’ve handled in the last few years, and one the nicest examples of the scarcer WR-343 variety (where the coin was struck with coin-oriented dies). Equal-second finest graded by PCGS (2/21) and rare in this grade.
