1864 Sydney Mint Sovereign

While the later dates in the Sydney Mint sovereign series are generally more available, coins in Mint State are rare. The 1864 Sydney Mint sovereign is no exception, with just one in twelve PCGS-graded examples attaining the coveted PCGS MS62 grade or finer (1/23). The date is known for its reasonably sharp strike, strong wreath, and dusty, subdued lustre. The coin photographed here is one of the nicer coins we’ve handled in recent years, and would suit a quality Sydney Mint sovereign set or type set.
