Australia, 1871 Sydney Shield Reverse Sovereign - Grades PCGS MS64.
S-3855A, with incused William Wyon initials. This 1871-S young head sovereign has to be one of the nicest Australian shield sovereigns I’ve ever had the pleasure of owning. Crisply and deeply struck, with a clear kiss curl, this piece was discovered in the accumulation of a numismatic friend from northern Europe. It is the single-finest of the date and variety graded by PCGS (1/19), and the equal-finest graded of the date. RARE this nice, and one to put aside.
