1852 Type II Adelaide Pound

Historically important, the 1852 Adelaide Pound will always have a place in every coin collection as Australia’s first gold coin. It is also unique as the only coin issued in South Australia. The example photographed above is the last of a small hoard we acquired last year, and one of the nicest examples from that batch. It has attractive dusty lustre and great eye appeal that is marred only by a typically weak strike. Otherwise, it is a well-priced coin for the price-conscious collector.
