Australia, 1865 Sydney Mint Half Sovereign - Grades PCGS MS63.
Sydney Mint half sovereigns are scarce by any measure. In Mint State, they’re rare, and in the grades MS62 or better, they’re a premium coin that might appear on the market just once or twice a year. The present coin was sourced by dealers Windsor and Sons in 2007, and then held in a Queensland collection for a short while, after which it was submitted for certification with PCGS and ranked equal second-finest by them at MS63 (12/25). A conditional outlier, and a survivor out of a mintage of just 62,000 coins, this 1865 Sydney Mint half sovereign is an ideal coin for the connoisseur or serious half sovereign collector.
